Well, after breaking the exclusive on the new management at the Unicorn Inn, I finally got to pay them a visit today. And what a wonderful pub it is. Little Dawley is blessed indeed to have one of those pubs that balances so many excellent characteristics perfectly. It’s got a fantastic group of friendly locals, who keep the atmosphere light and joyous. They have a spacious beer garden for those sunny, or nearly sunny days. They have a choice of beers which would be pretty enviable in a central city location, never mind in the relative sticks.

We went down as an extended family group, with dog. All were made to feel welcome. Dog biscuits on the bar, and fresh water available at all times in the garden. A selection of garden games to keep the Smalls entertained. And did I mention the beer is excellent? I jumped in on a pint of cask Lemon Dream from Salopian, and the Light Bulb from Verdant on keg. Purely for research purposes, of course. Both excellent.

More to come
I’m seeing a lot on offer from this pub. You can tell from what I have already mentioned that it ticks all my boxes. But the new management are starting to find their way with live music, vinyl nights, quizzes – all the little extras that will keep you coming back to the Unicorn Inn time and time again. They have bar snacks on offer, a bit more than just a bag of pig snacks, and occasional BBQs. Keep an eye on their socials for details.
Well worth a stop if you’re a local, or a pit stop if you live a little further afield. Dare I say this is a “proper pub” done right, and you can wile away many a happy hour here. Completely worthy of a place here on the GOAT.
