I was so sad to hear about the temporary closure of The Boot Micropub that I even wrote about it for CAMRA’s What’s Brewing a few weeks ago. So, joy upon joys, it was a delight to return this afternoon. The rebooted Boot is alive and thriving, if today is anything to go by.
They’ve, very sensibly, taken time out to look at the business. They’ve examined what was working, what wasn’t. The feedback from customers and non-users alike has been taken on board. And now it is cosier and more delightful than ever. The tiny pub is absolutely packed full of character. A new green wall on one side complements the beautiful bottle green tiled bar. This has given the space more atmosphere and interest. Slightly eccentric tables (done by me, I hasten to add) are collaged with images of Wellington past and present, brewery life and even a bit of Spiderman.
There are more cask ales before, including new permanent lines from local brewers Hobsons and Salopian. But the keg and bottle range should not be overlooked. There are some absolutely stonking Belgian beers in the fridge that you must try.
I love it
It is all very satisfactory. Very satisfactory indeed. Still family friendly in the day time and dog friendly whenever, this is a micropub truly welcoming to all. A new jukebox has also helped to add a bit more vibrancy (thanks to whoever put Faith No More on while we were enjoying a drink.) There are events on the horizon – live music, quizzes and evenings for women who want to enjoy a nice pint in a friendly environment.
I love this little pub, and I love the people who run it. I’m quite happy to go full disclosure here. Plus I can walk to it from my house. So if you haven’t tried on the Boot yet, come and give them a go. You’ll find absolutely the best of local and UK brewing on offer on the bar, alongside an enviable selection of Belgian guests. If beer’s not your think, all the usual stuff is also available and really great quality. It’s chilled, it’s a bit eccentric, it’s cosy and it’s just straight up lovely. Put your feet up at the Boot as soon as possible.
