Festive Imperial Stout Tasting

There is an event full of Christmas cheer coming up at The Boot in Wellington – a festive imperial stout tasting. If you weren’t sure, imperial stouts are strong dark beers. They come in all kinds of different types, with different flavour profiles – but most are rich and full of chocolate and coffee notes. Imperial stouts can be sweet or dry, and some are aged in barrels for an even deeper flavour.

They are, almost universally, delicious. And I suppose I would say that, because I’m hosting the tasting. I am an award winning beer writer, and stouts have been a bit of an obsession for me recently. You can read about my love for them over on CKBK, for example.

So come and try them for yourself. The Boot will be cooking up some tasty treats to pair with six exclusive beers on the evening. There will be a mix of cask, keg and bottled beers with some big names, some local breweries and some intriguing collaborations that even I haven’t had the chance to taste yet.

I’m not going to give the game away, but one of the beers has been aged for three years by the brewery before release, and two of them have been aged for more than a year by the pub themselves. Talk about dedication! Ageing beer helps it to condition, allowing all the flavours to really come together and often improving the quality of the mouthfeel.

This event is unmissable. But again, I would say that. I can promise it will be a real winter warmer on the run up to Christmas!
