Enjoy at 21: Rare books and cafe

If you head to Market Drayton, you may be forgiven for missing Enjoy at 21. This delightful little rare bookshop and cafe is tucked away at 21 Shropshire Street, but is well worth a visit. Acres of books line the shelves, covering all topics and all interests. Some are quirky, some are historic indeed. I love to have a little browse, and I love a little snack while I do it, so Enjoy at 21 is perfect for me.

Run by a husband and wife team, they are open Tuesday to Friday. The highlight of the simple menu has to be Jill’s homemade bread, which is absolutely delightful. Full of flavour and the most beautiful crust. At this time of year I cannot recommend a toasted sandwich with some Belton Red Fox cheese and homemade pickles enough. The menu is vegetarian, with plenty of options to suit vegans too, and homemade gluten free bread is also baked. As if that wasn’t enough, Jill also whips up her own cakes and biscuits using seasonal produce and the best quality ingredients.

This surely is a hidden gem if ever there was one. It is quiet and unassuming. No airs and graces, just lovely books and food prepared with care. If you fancy looking for some unusual Christmas gifts this is certainly the place to visit. And the welcome is warm and friendly, you may find that you head in to browse and end up staying for the whole afternoon, fuelled by the simple but delicious treats on offer.
